Enter the Naval Arena
The ocean is a battlefield, and your vessel is the biggest weapon on the water. Ship Smasher is a naval combat action game where you command a heavily reinforced warship with one mission: obliterate every enemy vessel that crosses your path. The game delivers pure, satisfying destruction wrapped in strategic depth. You do not just crash into things randomly — you choose your targets, manage your momentum, and time your strikes for maximum devastation.
When you play Ship Smasher online, you will quickly discover that there is more to this game than mindless ramming. Enemy fleets grow smarter with each level, their formations tighten, and their cannons get more accurate. Adapting your naval combat approach level by level is the only way to keep your ship afloat.
Understanding Naval Combat
Your Warship
You command a steel-hulled warship that grows more powerful as you progress. At the start, your ship is nimble but relatively fragile. Through combat, you earn scrap metal and resources that let you reinforce your hull, increase your ramming power, and add weapon systems to your deck.
Your ship has three core attributes:
- Hull integrity — Your health. When it reaches zero, your ship sinks and the run ends
- Ram power — Determines how much damage you deal on impact. Upgrading this lets you smash through tougher enemies
- Speed — Affects acceleration and top speed. Faster ships can chase down fleeing enemies but are harder to control in tight spaces
Enemy Vessel Types
Scout Boats
Small, fast, and lightly armored. They appear in large numbers and try to swarm your position. Individually they are no threat, but a pack of them can chip away at your hull if you ignore them too long. One solid ram takes them out.
Destroyers
Medium-sized warships with functional cannons. They fire at you from a distance while trying to maintain spacing. You need to close the gap quickly to ram them before their cannons wear you down. Two to three rams usually finish them.
Battleships
Massive, heavily armored vessels that serve as mini-bosses on certain levels. They have powerful broadside cannons and thick hulls that require multiple direct hits to breach. Circle around them to avoid their forward guns and ram their flanks where the armor is weakest.
Torpedo Boats
Fast-moving enemies that launch torpedoes in straight lines. The torpedoes are slow enough to dodge if you see them coming, but they deal massive damage on contact. Always prioritize sinking torpedo boats before they fire.
Ship Destruction Tactics
The Art of the Ram
Ramming is your primary weapon, and doing it well separates average players from great ones. A ramming attack deals damage proportional to your speed at the moment of impact. This means building up momentum before a collision is essential.
Here is how to execute effective ramming maneuvers:
- The straight charge — Line up directly with an enemy ship and accelerate to full speed. Maximum damage but leaves you vulnerable to counter-fire during the approach
- The broadside sweep — Approach from an angle and clip the enemy ship with the side of your bow. Less damage than a head-on hit but easier to execute in crowded battles
- The reverse ram — If an enemy gets too close, reversing quickly and then accelerating forward can surprise them with an unexpected collision
Tactical Positioning
Where you position your ship matters enormously in Ship Smasher. The open ocean gives you room to build speed, but levels with islands, reefs, and narrow channels restrict your movement and force you to think tactically.
- Use islands as shields to block enemy cannon fire
- Funnel enemies into narrow passages where they cannot dodge your rams
- Avoid beaching your ship on shallow areas — it takes several seconds to free yourself, during which enemies fire freely
- Stay aware of the current — some levels feature water currents that push your ship in unexpected directions
Controls
Mouse and Click Controls
Ship Smasher uses a point-and-click system that feels natural and responsive:
- Click on water — Your ship steers toward that location and maintains speed
- Click on enemy ship — Your ship automatically navigates toward the target for a ramming attack
- Right-click — Emergency brake. Slows your ship quickly to avoid collisions with obstacles
- Scroll wheel — Adjusts your camera zoom for better battlefield awareness
Keyboard Controls
For players who prefer keyboard input:
- Arrow keys or WASD — Direct control of your ship's movement
- Spacebar — Boost. Temporarily increases speed for a limited time (has a cooldown)
- E key — Activate defensive shield (absorbs one hit, then needs to recharge)
- Q key — Fire cannon if you have one equipped
How to Get High Scores
Your score in Ship Smasher combines several factors: enemies destroyed, speed of completion, hull integrity remaining at the end of each level, and combo bonuses for destroying multiple ships in quick succession.
Scoring Breakdown
- Base points — Awarded for each enemy ship destroyed, scaled by ship type
- Speed bonus — Complete a level under the par time for bonus points
- Health bonus — Ending a level with high hull integrity adds a percentage multiplier
- Combo multiplier — Destroying ships within three seconds of each other chains a combo. The multiplier grows with each successive kill in the chain
High Score Strategy
The most effective scoring strategy involves aggressive play with calculated risks. Do not play passively and wait for enemies to come to you. Hunt them down, chain your kills for combo bonuses, and use your boost to move quickly between targets. The speed bonus and combo multiplier together can more than double your base score.
Tips and Important Notes
- Repair pickups appear as floating green crates on the water. Grab them when your hull is damaged, but do not go out of your way for them if you are still healthy
- The boost ability is your best tool for both offense and escape. Use it offensively to close gaps quickly, or defensively to dodge torpedoes
- Each level has a hidden bonus objective, such as destroying all enemies within a time limit or finishing without taking damage. Completing these grants extra upgrade resources
- Enemy ships sometimes drop power-ups when destroyed. These include temporary speed boosts, damage increases, and a magnetic effect that pulls nearby pickups toward you
- The game saves your ship upgrades permanently, so even if you fail a level, the upgrades you purchased carry over to your next attempt
