Stickman War

The battlefield does not care about your plan. It cares about your response. In Stickman War, you can devise the perfect strategy before the fighting starts, but the moment the first sword clashes, everything shifts. The commander who adapts fastest wins. The one who clings to a failing plan falls.

This is large-scale stickman warfare where you recruit, deploy, and command armies across sprawling battlefields. You are not a soldier on the ground — you are the mind behind the entire operation. Every unit you train, every lane you reinforce, and every special ability you deploy shapes the outcome of the conflict.

You can play Stickman War online right here on Wacky Steps and take your place as supreme commander.

The War Room: Understanding the Battlefield

Your Strategic Position

Each battle in Stickman War takes place across multiple lanes stretching from your base to the enemy base. Your base is on the left, the enemy base is on the right, and the space between is the killing ground where armies clash.

You start each battle with a modest gold income and the ability to train basic infantry. As you earn resources through combat, you unlock more powerful unit types and special abilities. The enemy grows alongside you — every battle is a race to build the stronger force and break through the opposing lines.

The Three Pillars of Command

Success in Stickman War rests on three pillars:

  1. Economy: Gold funds everything. Without a steady income, you cannot replace fallen troops or unlock upgrades.
  2. Army Composition: The right mix of units counters the enemy's strategy. The wrong mix leads to slaughter.
  3. Timing: Deploying the right units at the right moment is more valuable than having a large but poorly timed army.

Deploying Your Forces

Unit Roster

Your army draws from the following unit types, each filling a specific battlefield role:

  • Swordsmen — The core infantry. Balanced health and damage. Cheap to produce and effective in numbers. Send them in first to absorb damage and hold the line.
  • Archers — Ranged units that attack from behind the frontline. High damage but low health. Always deploy behind swordsmen to keep them protected.
  • Spearmen — Anti-cavalry specialists with a damage bonus against mounted units. Moderate cost, excellent defensive value when placed in narrow lanes.
  • Cavalry — Fast mounted units that deal heavy damage on first contact. Their charge bonus makes them devastating in hit-and-run attacks against enemy archers and siege units.
  • Catapults — Siege weapons that deal massive area damage. Slow, expensive, and fragile in close combat, but they can destroy grouped enemy formations from a distance.
  • Healers — Support units that restore health to nearby allies. Keep them behind your main force and they will significantly extend the lifespan of your army.

Mouse Controls

Everything in Stickman War is controlled with your mouse:

  • Click unit buttons on the bottom toolbar to train new units. Trained units automatically march toward the enemy base.
  • Click upgrade icons to improve unit stats. Each upgrade applies to all current and future units of that type.
  • Click special ability buttons to activate powerful battlefield effects like air strikes, healing waves, or morale boosts.
  • Hover over enemy units to see their type and health, helping you decide which counter-units to train.

Tactical Doctrine: How to Win Battles

Reading the Enemy Formation

Before committing your resources, take a few seconds to observe what the enemy is producing. The unit types they send down each lane reveal their strategy:

  • Heavy infantry waves mean they are trying to push through with raw numbers. Counter with archers behind your own infantry line.
  • Cavalry raids indicate they are targeting your support units. Deploy spearmen in the lanes the cavalry uses.
  • Siege weapon deployments suggest they are preparing for a big push. Eliminate catapults quickly with cavalry flanking attacks before they can decimate your formations.
  • Healer-backed armies are durable but slow. Overwhelm them with concentrated force in a single lane rather than spreading across all lanes.

Lane Control Strategy

Battles typically feature three to five lanes. The most common mistake is trying to win every lane simultaneously. This spreads your forces thin and makes you vulnerable everywhere.

Instead, choose one or two lanes to dominate and hold the remaining lanes with minimal defense. Concentrated force in a few lanes creates breakthroughs, and once you break through in one lane, you can flank enemy positions in adjacent lanes.

The Funnel Strategy

Place your strongest units in the center lane and hold the outer lanes with cheap infantry. The enemy will often spread evenly across all lanes, meaning your concentrated center force will punch through while your cheap units on the sides delay the enemy long enough for your center push to reach the base.

When to Push and When to Hold

Aggression wins battles, but reckless aggression loses them. The key is recognizing when your army has the advantage:

  • Push when: You have more units on the field, the enemy has fewer resource-generating units, or you have just activated a powerful special ability.
  • Hold when: The enemy has recently deployed a large wave, your gold reserves are low, or you are saving resources for an upgrade or special ability.

The Commander's Arsenal: Special Abilities

Special abilities are powerful tools with cooldown timers. Using them at the right moment can swing an entire battle:

  • Air Strike: Deals heavy damage to all enemies in a targeted area. Best used when the enemy groups units for a large push.
  • Healing Wave: Restores health to all your units on the battlefield. Use it when your army is engaged in combat and taking casualties.
  • Morale Boost: Temporarily increases the damage of all your units. Deploy this right before a major push to maximize its impact.
  • Shield Wall: Grants temporary damage reduction to all your units. Ideal for surviving a massive enemy assault while you build reinforcements.

Building Long-Term Strength: The Upgrade Path

Priority Upgrades

Resources from victories can be spent on permanent upgrades between battles:

  1. Swordsman Health — Your frontline lives longer, giving archers more time to deal damage.
  2. Archer Damage — Increased ranged output means enemies die before reaching your lines.
  3. Gold Income Rate — A stronger economy lets you outproduce the enemy in longer battles.
  4. Cavalry Charge Bonus — Makes your mounted units devastating on first contact.
  5. Special Ability Cooldown — More frequent ability use gives you more tactical options.

Tips and Important Notes

  • Always have a reserve — Keep some gold unspent so you can quickly train counter-units when the enemy changes strategy
  • Destroy enemy economy units first when possible — crippling their gold production creates a snowball effect in your favor
  • Special abilities have visual warnings — watch for enemy ability activations and retreat your units if you see an air strike coming
  • The minimap shows unit positions across all lanes — use it to identify which lanes need reinforcements
  • Some battles have environmental effects like rain that slows units or wind that affects projectiles. Adapt your strategy to the conditions
